Free car valuation
What’s my car worth?
A free Motorly car valuation is a guide to what your car is worth in Ireland today. We work it out from live asking prices on similar Irish adverts and show you the typical range, the median price and how many adverts it is based on. You don’t need to sign up.
How we work out your car’s value
We look for live adverts with the same make and model as your car. If you give a year, adverts from that year and one year either side count as similar.
We only use adverts that are still marked as for sale and were seen in the last 14 days. Cars listed directly on Motorly count while they are live. Very low placeholder prices are left out.
You see a range running from the lower quarter to the upper quarter of those asking prices, the median (middle) asking price, and the number of similar adverts behind it.
If fewer than 3 similar adverts match, we don’t show a value.
The range is not adjusted for mileage, trim, engine, fuel type or condition, so allow for those yourself. If you enter a reg, we use it to fill in your car’s details for you.
Worked example: 2018 Volkswagen Golf
This is what the valuation shows for a 2018 Volkswagen Golf with no mileage entered.
- Typical asking-price range
- €14,950 – €18,950
- Median asking price
- €16,950
- Similar adverts
- 2,424
Market data read on 7 Nov 2026. Figures are rounded and change as adverts come and go.
Is it free?
Yes. The valuation is free and you don’t need to sign up or give an email address. Listing your car on Motorly is free too.
How accurate is the valuation?
It is a guide to asking prices, not a sale price. It shows what sellers are asking for similar cars right now, not what buyers finally paid.
Actual sale prices can differ from asking prices, because buyers and sellers often agree a lower figure. A trade-in offer from a dealer is usually lower than a private sale price, because the dealer needs room to prepare and resell the car.
What affects your car’s value in Ireland
- Mileage
- Lower mileage than similar cars of the same age usually supports a higher price, and higher mileage a lower one. Our range is not adjusted for mileage, so compare yours with similar adverts.
- NCT status
- A car with plenty of time left on its NCT certificate is easier to sell. A car that is due or has failed its NCT usually needs the work done first or a lower price.
- Service history
- A full service history, stamped or digital, gives buyers confidence. Gaps usually lead to more questions and lower offers.
- VRT and import status
- An imported car must be registered here and have its VRT paid before it can be sold on Irish plates. Buyers often ask about import history, so keep the paperwork ready.
- Motor tax band
- Motor tax depends on the car’s emissions or, for older cars, its engine size. Cars in cheaper tax bands can appeal to more buyers.

Car valuation questions
How much is my car worth in Ireland?
Enter your car’s make, model and year above and Motorly shows the range of live asking prices on similar Irish adverts, plus the median. It is a guide to asking prices, not a sale price.
Is the car value calculator free?
Yes. Valuing your car on Motorly is free and you don’t need to sign up. Listing your car is free too.
How does Motorly value my car?
We compare your car with live adverts for the same make and model and, if you give a year, from that year or one year either side. We show the middle range of their asking prices, the median and how many adverts it is based on.
Can I value my car by reg?
Yes. Enter your reg and Motorly tries to fill in the make, model and year for you. You can also type the details in yourself.
Why is a trade-in offer lower than my car valuation?
A dealer needs room to prepare and resell a trade-in, so offers are usually lower than private sale prices. Our valuation is based on asking prices, and cars often sell for less than their asking price.
Why can’t I get a value for my car?
We only show a value when there are enough similar live adverts. For rarer cars, try leaving the year blank, or list your car free and set your own price.
